What I am listening to

The thing is most folks who incorporate politics into music either try to be philosophical or aggressive...PJ doesn't do it that way. They take an everyday person and describe their plight (Unemployable, Gone)....or speak to the true nature of society's big wigs (Green Disease, Bu$hleaguer, Grievance)...or speak to the effect that government policy has on the average person (World Wide Suicide, Army Reserve, Come Back). There isn't another band that protests as subtly or more effectively. But still, most of their songs deal with human emotions and the human condition. But to try to corner PJ as a protest band is dead wrong. RATM is a protest band...and they are nothing more than a protest band (even though I like em a lot, that's all they can succeed doing) Neil Young and Bob Dylan are both great song writers and that transcends the social protest in thier music. While PJ's last few efforts haven't catered to the crowd that only knows Alive, Even Flow, Black, Jeremy, and Last Kiss...IMO it it some of their best work...makes ya think.

I know a bunch of you aren't into this, but if you're into political and not backing down from speaking the truth on how messed up this world's become...Slipknot's new album is full of that. Granted, some of it has the Stone Sour feel to it due to the guys getting a lil older--but overall, it's still hard and when it comes to speaking their mind about what's been going on, hard-hitting politically. Psychosocial, All Hope Is Gone, and Gematria (The Killing Name) are all examples off the new album. They do a good job with it and I was skeptical they would.

Yeah, I gotta agree man, Unemployable is my fav PJ song in a long time and one of my favorites ever. I can just see it happening to an everyday guy in my mind as the song goes on

ahhh I see the side they are trying to do, I just do not like it. Its like bands who write "satanic songs" its easy and its an easy sell. Much more response from a song like Daughter or Nothingman in my opinion. It was just an easy target for PJ and especially with the affiliation with Neil Young, I mean some people may like it and iy may be the new direction, but the direction is not something I have enjoyed.

Contrary to most folks (even PJ fans) I love the whole album "Riot Act"
